A total of 24 registered political
parties, including the ruling Awami League and six professional
organisations have submitted the names of eligible people to the
Search Committee proposing them for formation of a new Election
Commission (EC).
Talking to reporters at the Secretariat here in the evening, Cabinet
Division joint secretary and member secretary of Search Committee
Shafiul Azim said 24 registered political parties and six professional
bodies, including Bangladesh Medical Association (BMA) and Bangladesh
Krishibid Institution, submitted their proposals to this end.
Besides, he said, the committee received a number of proposals from
home and abroad through email and “these names will be listed now and
will be presented before the Search Committee”.
Earlier, the committee sent letters to the registered political
parties requesting those to send their proposals adding the names of
maximum 10 eligible people within 5 pm on February 11 (today) for the
posts of the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) and other election
commissioners.
