Information and Broadcasting Minister
Dr Hasan Mahmud said today that the people would not respond to the
call of BNP as the masses won’t remain beside those who do anti-people
politics.
“BNP’s recent threat to movement is a continuation of their
previous exaggeration. BNP leaders including Khandakar Mosharraf
Hossain have been issuing such threats after every Eid to topple the
government over the last 12 years,” he said replying to a query of
reporters at his official residence in city’s Mintu Road.
Hasan said BNP has been giving such threats that they would topple
the government after Eid, after winter, after rainy season or after
exams since the government took office in 2009. The statement of
Khandakar Mosharraf to topple the government through forming national
unity is a continuation of previous statements, he added.
The minister said people are laughing at them to hear the threat.
“They (BNP) tried to form a national unity with rightists and leftists
before the 2018 elections. But, there was no benefit of forming unity.
It was completely shut down like a lantern as the countrymen are with
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Awami League and the 14-party alliance
for the unprecedented development,” said Hasan, also Awami League
joint general secretary.
About the democracy index, the minister said Bangladesh moved up
one more place on the democracy index. “I think that the country would
move up ahead more as integrating democracy is not only the job of the
ruling party. Those who do opposition politics and anti-government
politics have also the responsibility of telling about this. We could
have moved more places on the democracy index if BNP didn’t do
anti-people politics,” he added.
