President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky thanked Mila Kunis and Ashton Kutcher “for responding to our grief” raising $35 million for Ukrainian refugees via video chat amid the escalating Russian invasion.
President Volodymyr Zelensky thanked Mila Kunis and Ashton Kutcher for raising $35 million for Ukrainian refugees via a video call.
The 44-year-old President of Ukraine contacted the ‘That 70s Show’ stars on Sunday (20.03.22) to express gratitude for their “determination” after they hit their milestone funding raising goal to aid the ever expanding humanitarian crisis – which according the UN has created 3.5 million refugees – due to the invasion of Russian troops ordered by the Russian President Vladimir Putin.
President Zelensky tweeted: “@aplusk Mila Kunis were among the first to respond to our grief. They have already raised $35 million and are sending to @flexport @airbnb to help [Ukrainian flag emoji] refugees. Grateful for their support. Impressed by their determination.”
Mila – who was born in the Ukrainian city of Chernivtsi and moved to the United States as a teenager – and her husband Ashton both shared the same photo of their chat posted Zelensky on their own Twitter platforms.
The couple – who share seven-year-old daughter Wyatt and five-year-old son Dimitri – began their drive by promising to match donations up to $3 million and were “overwhelmed with gratitude” to have reached their $30 million target on Thursday (17.03.22).
In a video, the 38-year-old actress said: “Over 65,000 of you donated. We are overwhelmed with gratitude of the support and while this is far from the solve of the problem, our collective effort will provide a softer landing to so many people as they forge ahead into their future of uncertainty.”
The 44-year-old actor – while admitting their new goal was $40 million – added: “Our work is not done. We’re going to do everything we can to ensure that the outpouring of love that came from you all as a part of this campaign finds a maximum impact with those in need.’
“As funding continues to come in, we’re going to treat every dollar as if it’s being donated out of our pocket, with respect and honor for the work that went into earning it, with the intent of love through which it was given and the desire for it to be maximized for positive outcome for others.”
